Western New England University invites applications, nominations and expressions of interest in the position of President.

Western New England University (WNE) is a visionary leader for quality and innovation higher education. A private, independent, coeducational institution founded in 1919 with an attractive 215-acre suburban campus in Springfield, Massachusetts, Western New England University serves 3,800 students, including more than 2,600 full-time undergraduate students. Undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs are offered by 237 full-time and 109 part-time faculty through Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, and Pharmacy, and School of Law. The low student-to-faculty ratio allows for faculty to work closely with the students in class, labs and guided research. The university offers a myriad of experiential learning opportunities, including field experiences, student teaching, engineering design projects, and internships at a network of more than 1,000 companies and organizations across the country. In addition, the welcoming campus climate offers students many community activities, leadership opportunities and athletics.

After 25 years of outstanding leadership under its current president, Dr. Anthony Caprio, who will be retiring in 2020, WNE is well positioned to build on its strong programs, enrollment and financial position to plan its future as an institution. With a tradition of excellence in teaching, research and scholarship and a commitment to provide innovative liberal and professional education opportunities, Western New England is one of only a few U.S. comprehensive institutions enrolling under 5,000 students that is also recognized with national and international accreditations at the highest levels. The university serves an increasingly diverse population of students from the northeastern U.S., the nation, and the world.

WNE is a proven leader in preparing its graduates for careers. A 2019 report by Zippia, a career focused web site that utilized student employment data from the federal government's College Scorecard, names Western New England #1 in Massachusetts and #5 nationally in when it comes to the preparing graduates for the job market. Western New England University's employment rate is 95.56 percent, placing it ahead of all but four institutions nationwide.

WNE seeks in its next president outstanding leadership, financial and organizational skills, successful philanthropic fundraising experience and a passion for academic excellence and student success. A commitment to and evidence of acting upon the values of diversity and inclusion are essential. An earned terminal degree, administrative experience in higher education, and a history as a member of a tenured faculty are strongly preferred. The president will demonstrate exceptional communication and relationship building skills, the ability to advocate on behalf of the university with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
