Department Summary

The office of Orientation and Transition Programs is a department within the Division of Student Affairs and provides new students, continuing students, and family members with the tools necessary to make a smooth transition to UNT and toward graduation. Specifically, this position will assist with transition program efforts, providing leadership to the campus mentoring program, the Transfer Center, the Strengths at UNT program, and welcome week initiatives.

Position Overview

This position supports programs, initatives, and staff originating in the office of Orientation and Transition Programs including: Transition Programs, Mentoring Programs, First Flight Week, and the Transfer Center.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and four years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or an equivalent degree program and two years of relevant work experience.

Job Duties

 

o
Oversee the implementation and coordination of a campus-wide mentoring program.
o
Oversees the development and implementation of transitional programs for transfer students through the Transfer Center.
o
Effectively coordinates, implements, provides leadership, and is responsible for the coordination of First Flight and Spring Soar, our university’s welcome week programs.
o
Provides leadership to the office online programming initatives, serving as a resource to staff and expert in the content area.
o
Effectively hires, terminates, organizes, trains, and evaluates paid full-time staff members associated with Mentoring/Transition Programs, and the Transfer Center.
o
Provides leadership to the campus Strengths at UNT initiatives by distributing the Strengths assessment, organizing coaching sessions, and hosting programs.
o
Exhibits good judgement in decisions pertaining to fiscal matters and actively works with direct reports to ensure they have an understanding of budgetary procedures.
o
Assists with the development, revision, and distribution of marketing, educational, and informational publications related to transition programs.
o
Oversees the development and assessment of learning and expected outcomes for mentoring, transition programs, and transfer programs.
o
Works collaboratively with various departments on campus in the development of programs.
o
Attends trainings, workshops or programs when applicable, to improve knowledge and skills.
