Tufts University invites nominations and applications for the position of Senior Director for Technology Transfer and Industry Collaboration. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and innovative thought leader with expertise in facilitating relationships between researchers and industry collaborators. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Research, this position will build connections throughout and across Tufts’ multiple campuses to support members of the University community with the goal of creating stronger industry partnerships and moving Tufts’ innovative research into the marketplace.
The Senior Director for Technology Transfer & Industry Collaboration is responsible for realizing the mission of the Office of Technology Transfer and Industry Collaboration (TTIC). The TTIC is responsible for facilitating the transfer of Tufts technology for public use and benefit. TTIC evaluates, obtains proprietary protection for, and assists in the distribution of technology for research and commercial purposes. It is responsible for commercializing research by identifying potential markets and negotiating license agreements with industry partners, be they large corporations or start-up companies.
The University is now seeking to build a more holistic business development function within Technology Transfer & Industry Collaboration that will better position the University to engage with industry. The Senior Director will lead the team’s efforts, serving as a liaison between faculty and industry, identifying and connecting faculty with industry-relevant research, facilitating discussions to explore potential relationships, and promoting Tufts as the ideal collaborator for a company’s R&D goals.
Candidates should possess most if not all of the following: master’s degree (required) and/or Ph.D. in science or engineering (preferred); ten years of related experience; significant experience in a corporate environment, specifically in R&D, product development, or business development in bio-tech pharma or equivalent experience in an innovative academic commercialization office of similar size and complexity; record of visionary leadership in technology licensing and intellectual property management; strong executive leadership background with substantial management experience; success in managing patent expenses and negotiating complex contractual agreements; strength in building partnerships with internal and external stakeholders; and superb verbal and written communication skills.
