Job Summary

The Director of Health Promotion & Wellness Services (HPWSwill champion a socio-ecological approach to health promotion and harm reduction by creating and advocating for environments in which Auburn’s students can thrive. In collaboration with other Campus Recreation and Wellness (CRW) personnel and campus partners, the Director will play a visible role in assessing, identifying, and proposing plans to address campus health trends and priorities, as well as serving as a health promotion advisor to university leadership—shaping the vision and strategic direction of this vital CRW unit.

This position incorporates public health theory to support student, faculty and staff needs through design, development, promotion, implementation, supervision, intervention, and assessment of programs. This leadership position serves as the leader of Health Promotion and Wellness Services. The Director of HPWS serves as a senior leader in the Campus Recreation and Wellness, assisting the Executive Director in administrative duties requiring initiative, judgement, knowledge, and critical thinking. This position leads an office of five full time professional staff members, four graduate assistants, and student staff.

Essential Functions

    • Directs, plans, implements, and assesses all health promotion and wellness services activities.
    • Plans and administers departmental budgets.
    • Supervises an interdisciplinary team of professional staff members.
    • Serves on the Campus Recreation and Wellness senior leadership team.
    • Oversees Health Promotion and Wellness strategic planning process, plans, goals, and priorities.
    • Establishes measurable objectives in alignment with the mission, vision, strategic direction, and priorities of Campus Recreation and Wellness, key campus partners, and the student body.
    • Collaborates with key stakeholders on and off campus to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive, highly visible, evidence-informed prevention efforts that achieve measurably high-quality public health outcomes.
    • Utilizes appropriate assessment techniques to evaluate health promotion and prevention programming.
    • Disseminate and present health trends and data to key campus stakeholders.
    • Implements innovative environmental strategies to address campus and community well-being.
    • Advises senior leadership on health promotion and public health-related communication strategies.
    • Reports directly to the Executive Director of Campus Recreation Wellness
