Departmental Overview

The Pantas and Ting Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET) is the premiere institution at UC Berkeley for the study and practice of entrepreneurship and technology innovation. SCET is globally recognized for developing the Berkeley Method, an internationally recognized approach to teaching technology entrepreneurship to undergraduate students, innovation to graduate students, and technology firm leadership to professionals and executives. The SCET Director of Alumni and Industry Engagement position develops and implements new strategies to more thoroughly and independently manage and expand the impact of alumni and industry relations within SCET's academic, global and executive programming. As the Center has grown in scope, this position must be created to more adequately meet the Center's needs and goals, as well as the specific needs of alumni, students, global partners, and donors. The programs under this position are integral to our mission and represent growing engagement of alumni and industry with curricular and co-curricular programming.

Responsibilities

Administers a small to mid-sized program with primary responsibility for administrative
and programmatic activities.

This position is responsible for leading initiatives and developing curricular and cocurricular programming that connects SCET, SCET students, and SCET Academic,
Professional, Global and XLab programs with alumni, industry, and campus partners. Through identification, development and management of new curricular and cocurricular programs focused on connecting alumni and industry with the various populations, this position promotes SCET and Berkeley's newest achievements in tech innovation and inclusion, through program design, curriculum integration, and development of strategic partnerships.This position is responsible for long-term planning, design, and implementation of new education-based programs that provide sustained revenue opportunities for the Center's academic initiatives. This includes seeking ways to expand each program to provide greater value to the SCET student community through networking opportunities, research opportunities, internship and career guidance, and incubation for student ventures. In addition, this position includes long-term planning, design and implementation of SCET strategic plans to promote student and alumni achievements and curating relationships with alumni and industry partners to generate programmatic and financial value to SCET, the College of Engineering and UC Berkeley.

Works with program leadership to identify and pursue funding opportunities and revenue streams.

This position is responsible for identifying and collaborating with alumni and industry partners as well as internal partners (e.g. Chancellor's Office, colleges and research institutes) for curricular, co-curricular, career services, XLab, and accelerator activities for SCET. This position identifies, assesses and cultivates funding opportunities and revenue streams. In doing so, this position is tasked with creating and implementing large-scale events and programs (e.g. Student Innovation Fellows) to connect alumni and industry partners with SCET, students and SCET campus partners. This position oversees all aspects of the events and programs coordinating closely with campus partners, SCET leadership as well as overseeing event/program volunteers and recruits.

Assesses program's effectiveness, and recommends changes to program's content, policies and procedures accordingly.

This position integrates assessment activities in event and programmatic efforts in order to assess event/program success and long-term implementation and financial
opportunities. This position takes an active role in recommending changes to the Center's industry and alumni engagement efforts and associated curricular and cocurricular programming. This position is responsible for ensuring new initiatives are consistent with the goals of SCET, the College and UC Berkeley and effectively communicating these goals with internal and external constituents.

Serves on committees representing the program, participating in short term and long term planning.

This position thoroughly and independently manages and assesses the impact of alumni and industry relations within SCET's academic, research, global and executive curricular and co-curricular programming. This position serves as the main point of contact for new and existing alumni, industry, and campus partners interested in developing and/or expanding curricular and co-curricular programming as well as serves as SCET's liaison in collaborating with internal partners (e.g. Chancellor's Office, colleges and research institutes) on new SCET initiatives.

Participates in the program budgeting and accounting processes to support financial infrastructure of program and SCET academic initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Academic background and experience in selected area of research preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.
  • Solid fundraising experience.
  • Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in related area and/or equivalent experience training preferred.


Salary & Benefits

The starting salary range for this position is $82,400 to $116,900 annually, commensurate with experience. This is a 100% FTE career position eligible for full benefits.
