Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for a collaborative leader to join the Department of Communication at Missouri State University as Department Head. The Department Head will supervise the Department of Communication by providing active leadership in recruitment and retention, curriculum development, and hiring and evaluation of faculty. The successful candidate will be a tenured Full Professor and will join a strong team of supportive and cooperative University leadership and faculty. This is a five-year appointment.

Required Qualifications
  • Terminal degree (doctorate) in communication
  • Tenurable as Full Professor in the Department of Communication
  • 3 years of comprehensive administrative experience including
    • Recruitment and evaluation of personnel
    • Curriculum development
    • Budgeting
    • Promotion and support of faculty scholarship
  • Strong record of scholarship in a communication related area of expertise
  • Demonstrate support of initiatives in online education
  • Demonstrate commitment to fostering a diverse environment
  • Successful in teaching, research, and service
  • Excellent communication skills


Key Responsibilities
The Department Head will be responsible for student enrollment management with a focus on increasing diversity initiatives as well as faculty recruitment, development, and evaluation. The successful candidate will provide leadership to all areas of department, including the Debate Team and The Center for Dispute Resolution (CDR). The Head will be responsible for program/curriculum development and review, student advisement, departmental budgeting, class schedule planning, and general supervision of the teaching, research, and service and related scholarly activities of the department.
