Position Description
This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic, innovative and equity minded individual to support the Simmons community with planning, managing, and evaluating community engagement and service programming, with primary responsibility for Simmons student-led programs and a secondary responsibility for service-learning programs. The Assistant Director organizes and evaluates the programs; trains and supports students; and manages community partnerships.

The Assistant Director will:

Support student engagement in the Greater Boston community, managing Simmons's student-led community engagement programs

  • Manage student led programs (SLPs), Strong Women Strong Girls, Student Service Learning Assistants, and Alternative Spring Break. This includes: program recruitment & training;
  • bi-weekly meetings with student leaders, problem-solving with tutor/mentor challenges, providing disciplinary action if required, and supporting program partner relationships to meet needs of community and students;
  • Provide training, professional development, and reflection opportunities for students with a strong diversity, equity and inclusion component.. Coordinate leadership training curriculum within the Student Experience Division and the PLAN curriculum;
  • Research best practices and new approaches to improve quality and impact of programming;
  • Assess program goal achievement; evaluate programs; report on program highlights and areas for improvement; plan and implement improvements;
  • Monitor and manage student program budgets: Administer reimbursements, cash advances, deposits, and purchases; track student group spending; maintain record and documentation;
  • Track Community Federal Work-Study budget and make adjustments as necessary;
  • Manage Community Engagement Program Assistants and schedule, ensuring coverage and appropriate training;
  • Represent Community Engagement at orientation, admission, and other College student recruiting activities.



Provide Service-Learning Course Support

  • Implement student-service learning assistant program as a student leadership opportunity to support service-learning courses;
  • Work with service-learning faculty to develop and sustain course related partnerships. Support student placements for courses with a placement structure;
  • Coordinate evaluation process for students and partners connected to service-learning courses.



Serve as Jumpstart Campus Champion

  • Advocate for resources for Jumpstart on campus and help integrate the program with our other student leadership programs.



Participate in creation of shared vision and strategy for community engagement for Simmons, particularly around student engagement in the Boston community as part of the service programs, the undergraduate general education program, undergraduate and graduate service learning; community-based research programs; and other community engagement initiatives.

  • Develop multi-year implementation plans for student-led and other student engagement programs, resulting from the vision and strategy.



Serve as an engaged member of the Student Experience team and the Division of Student Affairs. Monitor program expenses to use budget resources efficiently.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred;
  • Three to five years of related experience;
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations of students and diverse stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education community service programming. Record of successfully managing student managers and large scale student volunteer programs;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with community (school and agency) partners to build relationships and create programs of value to all parties;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
