Job Summary
Simmons University is looking for an Assistant Director to join the Office of Accessibility Services. Reporting to the Director of Accessibility Services, the Assistant Director will play an instrumental role in bridging academic gaps and removing academic barriers for Simmons' students. From reviewing documentation, to providing reasonable accommodations, the Assistant Director will provide one-on-one support, advocacy, and academic coaching on issues related to disability in higher education while promoting inclusive practices to stakeholders at Simmons University.

  • Review and interpret psycho-educational reports and other documentation to determine appropriate accommodations and services.
  • Work with students to design and develop accommodations based on federal regulations, and available adaptive resources;
  • Assist in the evaluation and interpretation documentation from treating practitioners/ professionals to determine academic and residential accommodations;
  • Meet with students for academic coaching, provide resources in time management, study techniques, self-advocacy, learning strategies, and other college-necessary skills;
  • Collect and synthesize departmental data and statistics;
  • Ensure the implementation of accommodations in the classroom;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to promote universal design for learning and equal access.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of department policies and procedures;
  • Create and maintain relationships with working partners across campus;
  • Collaborate with campus partners and serve on committees across campus;
  • Other responsibilities as needed.

  • Bachelor's degree in related field such as rehabilitation counseling, special education, disability studies, higher education, counseling, or psychology plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience;
  • Master's degree preferred;
  • Experience working with federal laws regarding postsecondary education and disabilities, including ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973;
  • Ability to manage and maintain confidential information;
  • Experience advising, case management, counseling, and/or programming in higher education or a comparable setting with a comparable population of individuals with disabilities;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to build and sustain key relationships with governing agencies, students with disabilities, and all levels of the community;
  • Ability to work as a member of a team in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Commitment to working with and fostering an inclusive environment with a diverse population of campus members.

This position may be eligible for partial remote work.
