At UVU the Director of Economic Development is responsible for outreach to the business community and economic development organizations in the region as well as providing leadership for two business resource centers (BRC) funded through multiple grant sources. Working with COED leadership, this position will advise on community outreach strategies, collaborate with various UVU departments, and report on the current state and emerging trends in business, entrepreneurship, innovation and economic development. Oversees the operations, personnel, and programming of the Utah Valley and Heber Valley BRCs. Promote BRC programs and tenant agency resources to raise awareness, increase traffic and build a robust community around the resources offered. The director will also seek funding and capital resources. BRC operations include running a business incubator, co-working spaces, and educational offerings for the business community.
Vision and Leadership
As part of the COED leadership team, attends meetings and gives input in decision making. Assists department leadership and others with special projects, meetings and additional duties as assigned. Collaborates with stakeholders and community leaders in business and economic development through convening events, community meetings, and individual networking to promote the programs and resources offered by the BRC agencies and Utah Valley University.
Meets with business leaders, business owners and entrepreneurs in the region to understand the business needs and the opportunities for the BRC to work with other organizations. Utilizes university and BRC space and resources to create relevant programs according to strategic direction offered by stakeholders, within grant and contract requirements. Collaborating with the Woodbury School of Business and/or other academic departments, builds cooperative educational programs to support the business community, such as the SMART lab.
Manages existing grants with EDA and UT State BRC funding. Participates in the statewide BRC network with GOED. Tracks, writes and submits renewal applications and reporting of all required metrics for grants. Seeks future funding to support growth and influence of the Business Resource Center in Utah, Summit, and Wasatch Counties. Works to ensure all BRC metrics are measured accurately and reported appropriately.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree and three years experience related to the summary of duties or a combination of education and work totaling 7 years.

Masters Degree Preferred and 5 7 years related experience.
Experience working in government and private industry preferred.
Experience with managing a budget preferred
Consistently sitting as with an office environment. Use of fine-hand manipulation associated with the use of a computer.
