Position Summary
The Undergraduate Program & Services Office (UPO) of the University at Buffalo School of Management seeks a student-focused, goal-oriented Academic Advisor to provide academic advising services for our diverse population of undergraduate students.

As an Academic Advisor, you will deliver individualized academic advising, as well as facilitate engaging orientations and other wrap around programming. Specializing in advisement of undergraduate-level students, you will collaborate with the team of advisors in the Undergraduate Programs Office focusing on helping students successfully transition from high school to college and progressing from admission to degree conferral. Each advisor has an assigned case load.

This role requires collaboration with the advising team, departments within the school and University to provide outstanding service to our students, supporting their academic goals and timely completion of their degrees.

Responsibilities:

As part of the undergraduate-level academic advisement team, you will:

  • Serve as main point of contact with students and provide them with information about the School of Management foundation/pre-management courses, GPA requirements, BS core and concentration options and UB curriculum requirements.
  • Meet with students throughout the academic year to explain, review and interpret academic policies and procedures, course offerings, the relationships of educational programs to work and careers, and answer student questions.
  • Assist with the registration of new students, clear students for degree conferral, apply exceptions to students’ academic advising reports, review transfer credit to determine how it applies to UB degree, and provide clean up to inaccurate student records.
  • Work with the director to assist students experiencing cross-cultural, personal, and family situations which may impact academic performance. Refer students to School of Management and University resources and work closely with Student Health Services, Accessibility Services, ISS, and other offices as needed to address student needs.
  • Deliver various academic presentations throughout the year including advisement presentations for incoming students via orientation programs
  • Assist with University orientation, open house, commencement, and other programs and activities related to undergraduate students to help provide a sense of community and co-curricular learning.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
