investigators conduct the world’s most advanced studies on nutrition and aging. The research
focuses on determining the nutrient and physical activity requirements necessary to promote well-
being for older adults. HNRCA scientists examine how nutrition and physical activity contribute to
the prevention of chronic disease in aging.
The HNRCA is operated by Tufts University through a cooperative agreement with the US Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS). Located adjacent to the Tufts University Health Sciences campus in Boston, Massachusetts, the HNRCA is one of six human nutrition research centers in the United States supported by the USDA.
Responsible for the administrative and financial aspects of the HNRCA. Develops and oversees the HNRCA’s financial and budgetary activities; develops financial and administrative tracking systems and procedures; develops and ensures compliance with multiple agreements between Tufts and USDA/ARS and works with the Center Director on long-range financial and administrative planning. Responsible for these functions: Scientific Computing Core, the Administrative Core, Financial Planning and Analysis, and Facilities, and is liaison with Central Administration, Public Safety and Facilities Services. Serves as an integral member in the leadership of the organization and is recognized as the key financial, administrative and operational strategist for the HNRCA.
Knowledge and experience as typically acquired through completion of bachelor’s degree and 10 years of related experience in a senior administration role
Solid, comprehensive understanding of academic institutional finance (i.e. grant management and budget review) and administration
Proven track record in the areas of budgeting, human resources management, cost accounting, and financial management of complex research operations and contracts
Exceptional decision making abilities
Able to work independently and yet be able to work within a matrixed and team-based management structure
Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of management in a savvy and astute manner
Superior communication skills are a must along with excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills short and long term strategic planning experience
General management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage a highly diverse, multicultural workforce
Exceptional problem solving skills
Proven ability to lead enterprise-wide initiatives
Master’s degree preferred with over 10 years of related experience in a senior administrative position, preferable in an academic research center or university setting
Working knowledge of federal regulations and guidelines and student services are highly desirable
Prior experience working in a matrixed management environment a plus
