Assistant Dean of Students, CET

College of Engineering and Technology (CET) at the Utah Valley University (UVU) is looking for an Assistant Dean in the general area of student affairs. UVU is an open enrollment and the largest university in the state of Utah with dual missions of education at the community college and four-year university levels. Most programs in engineering, computer science and technology fields at UVU are accredited and/or are in the process of accreditation. CET programs are housed in the following departments: Architecture and Engineering Design, Aviation, Computer Science, Construction Technologies, Digital Media, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Information Systems and Technology, Technology Management, Transportation Technologies, in addition to Culinary Arts Institute. CET programs offer certificates, associate, applied associate, bachelors, and masters degrees in over 40 programs in engineering, computer science and technology fields. We are looking for an exceptional individual serving one of the largest colleges of Engineering and Technology in the state of Utah reporting to the dean and the associate dean. Assistant Dean for Student affairs serves as a member of the Dean's senior management team and provides operational support and counsel to the Dean and Associate Dean; acts on behalf of the dean in the Dean's and Associate Dean's absence on matters related to the college and its programs; represents the dean and associate dean and college at various functions within the institution as assigned. Assists with data collection and analysis for strategic/long range planning for administrative goals, development and implementation of College strategic plans, PBA requests and reports; and communicates and shows accountability regarding projects assignments.

Required Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited institution with a masters degree and 2 years evidence of progressive academic and administrative experience with a record of successful people management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • CET Assistant Dean for Student Affairs reports to the Associate Dean and works under the direction of the CET Dean and Associate Dean. The following are expected areas of responsibility:
  • Works closely with the CET STEM Coordinator on orientation, student interaction, and community engagement for on- and off-campus programs (e.g., CET CARES, etc.). Coordinates with the STEM Coordinator on event organizations (inside and outside UVU), including but not limited to Engineering and Technology Week, Girls Engineering and Technology Day, Pizza with the Dean, etc.
  • Interacts with relevant campus administrative offices (students and faculty) on all relevant issues.
  • Works with stakeholders in CET and UVU on financial aid, admissions, registration, Student Life, Student Wellness, etc.
  • Works with CET student senator, departmental representatives, and chairs on student organizations and student governance. Reports to the dean and associate dean on relevant student organization matters.
  • Commencement / convocation programs.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work evenings, weekends and other schedules
  • Interacts with campus offices on resolution of conflicts, student conduct, Title IX, and related issues.
  • Prepares and updates CET Student Handbook.
  • Student surveys.
  • Works closely with the Advising Department, and Internship and Career Planning offices on student advising, faculty mentoring of students, student career planning, and employer outreach.
  • Student awards
  • Works with the STEM Coordinator and relevant UVU offices to facilitate and engage different cultures (students)
  • Study abroad programs in coordination with Global Academics and international student recruiting.
  • Works with the Assistant Dean for Advancement and the departments on student scholarship programs and creating new scholarship programs. Manages relations with student national organizations.
  • Administration of transfer credits and student transfers
  • Programs to improve retention and graduation rates (in coordination with UVU programs offices) and support for students from diverse backgrounds, First Generation students, etc.
  • Student services in relation with Alumni, CET Alumni Scholarship programs, and employer relations.
  • Work with CET web developer and Marketing Coordinator to enhance student access for campus and college services.

Preferred Qualifications:

Administrative experience at a university or community college is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

Office work. Sitting, Standing, Typing, Some physical Activity will be needed.

Pay Range: $72,688 - $90,861 DOE
