The Council of the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech, Jamaica); Jamaica’s national University and centre of excellence in education, invites confidential applications for its next President.
The governing body of the University, the Council, seeks a synergetic, visionary, innovative and entrepreneurial individual with a demonstrated record of effective business and academic leadership. The President should demonstrate commitment to the University’s mission, shared governance, transparency and be able to mobilize resources to support the University’s operations.
The incumbent must demonstrate the capacity to advance and sustain UTech, Jamaica’s position as the Caribbean’s leader for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) education research, innovation and entrepreneurship and as an integral facilitator to realize "Jamaica’s Vision 2030 – The National Development Plan."
The President is responsible for implementing strategy as well as the Council’s policies, and providing leadership and management for the proper administration and operation of the University. The President is the Chief Academic and Chief Administrative Officer of the University providing guidance on all matters and reporting to the University Council as the accountable officer.
The next President will have the opportunity to expand on the legacy of the University’s significant achievements and progressive transformation over the years.
Established in 1958 the University has evolved within the tertiary landscape offering over 100 academic programmes through its three colleges and five faculties; UTech, Jamaica has its main campus and others in Jamaica’s capital city, Kingston, as well as the Western Campus located in the country’s principal tourism city, Montego Bay.
The University of Technology, Jamaica is focused on conducting high impact, inter-disciplinary and applied research relevant to economic and social problems of the society. This is a most dynamic institution in Jamaica with a high profile of success and achievement in the Caribbean region. Over 11, 000 students are enrolled annually and serviced by approximately 1, 400 faculty and staff. The University also has active institutional collaborations with several world renowned higher education and industry institutions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
To effectively execute the functions of this position, the President should ideally possess at a minimum, the following competencies, academic and professional qualifications:
- An earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution
- At least ten (10) years professional managerial and leadership experience (business, industry or academia)
- Experience in academic leadership will be an asset
- Evidence of academic research with published articles in professional and technical journals, newspapers and other publications
- Highly developed interpersonal and team building skills
- An open, transparent and collaborative management style
- Strong strategic leadership skills
- Outstanding communication skills
- Strong Entrepreneurial, and Visionary skills.
Compensation will be in accordance with the University’s policy and guidelines and commensurate with the responsibilities of a University such as UTech, Jamaica.
