This position is responsible for the coordination and administration of advising services of an assigned college or area. The position manages departmental processes and functions as advising office resource expert for more complex advising issues. This position also collaborates and assists in the development and implementation of assigned departmental projects and educational programs, exercising considerable initiative and independent judgment in the performance of assigned duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree and four years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, professional academic advising, or related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
- Current knowledge of student development and counseling theory.
- Strong leadership skills appropriate for a supportive, dynamic environment.
- Strong presentation skills, critical thinking skills, creative problem solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
* Advanced experience and knowledge of student advising issues and university/college policies and procedures and the ability to translate information for all majors.
- Advanced knowledge of degree programs, attention to detail, ability to solve complex problems are necessary.
- Strong communication, self direction, managerial and supervisory skills are required.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, as well as the ability to collaborate and work with other university offices.
