Reporting directly to the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Performance, provides expertise and guidance in the training, development and implementation of sound, scientifically proven strength and physical conditioning protocols, including, but not limited to, mental development and motivation of 450+ student-athletes to maximize their potential for athletic performance and injury prevention.

Reporting directly to the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Performance, provides expertise and guidance in the training, development and implementation of sound, scientifically proven strength and physical conditioning protocols, including, but not limited to, mental development and motivation of 450+ student-athletes to maximize their potential for athletic performance and injury prevention.
Duties and Responsibilities (generally)
The Assistant Director of Sports Performance-Olympic Sports will, in conjunction with coaches and athletic trainers, organize and design strength, power, speed, agility and flexibility programs for assigned sports as well as maintain safety, hygiene, and efficiency of the NIU Athletics strength and conditioning center; create and supervise schedules and team workouts; and perform administrative duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director Sports Performance.
Minimum Required Qualifications for this position
Bachelor’s Degree required in exercise science field, with appropriate certifications.
Ability to demonstrate weight training skills, conditioning strategies plus teaching progressions, and knowledge of sports nutrition.
CSCCa or CSCS certification required.
Specialty Factors (Additional Required Qualifications)
Education and Experience Preferred
Master’s degree.
Successful experience in strength and conditioning on the university or college level.
Administrative experience in a sports training facility, department or program.
USA weightlifting certification.
Speed development experience.
List the knowledge, skills, and abilities critical to the performance of this position.
Ability to communicate with and relate well to the student-athlete.
Ability to effectively communicate through oral, written and electronic forms.
Strong organizational skills.
Have a thorough knowledge of NCAA, conference and institutional rules and conduct the program within the regulations.
