What you'll be doing
  • Develops, creates, and oversees the effective presentation and communication of the brand image of Utah Valley University as defined by its mission and vision.
  • This critical position provides strategic and creative direction for all forms of artwork and communications across all media platforms utilized to promote the public face of the university to meet mission and revenue goals.
  • Understands industry trends, creative tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, XD, Photoshop, Premiere Pro).
  • Performs or manages a range of creative positions, including graphic designers, art directors, copywriters, web designers.
  • Sees and sells the creative vision of the university.
  • Strategic planning and understanding of the role creative plays in the broader strategic goals of the university.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, Advertising, or a related field preferred, although agency or industry experience may be substituted
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience as a creative director or leading a creative team
  • Strong technical ability with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Mac OS, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Adobe XD, and other applications
  • Strong knowledge of print, photo, digital design, broadcast, and interactive design
  • Experience is a key prerequisite for a creative director position
  • Stellar communication, presentation, problem-solving, production, and project management skills are required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Fluent knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite and other relevant design applications
  • Strong knowledge of color theory, color relationships, and typography
  • Strong knowledge of web design principles and responsive design
  • Working knowledge of web development and the relationship between design and development
  • Knowledge of the print production process
  • Knowledge of environmental or experiential branding
  • Knowledge of budgeting principles and ability to manage a budget
  • Expert knowledge of the business side of design

  • Ability to present concepts clearly and articulate concepts and solutions, verbally and in writing
  • Proven ability to direct and produce large-scale and effective strategies, concepts, and creative ideas for digital, print, and broadcast media
  • Team player attitude with refined diplomatic and influencing skills
  • Ability to teach and instruct others on appropriate software applications
  • Human resource management and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Ad agency or creative agency experience preferred but not required

Physical Requirements:

General working hours M-F 8 am 5 pm.
Some nights and weekends possible.
Occasionally will need to attend special events.

Pay Range: $82,711 - $103,389 DOE
