The Associate Director is the point person for all activities related to Diversity and Inclusion at The Fletcher School. The Associate Director provides leadership and supports all efforts at The Fletcher School to foster a dynamic, caring community through a diverse and invested School community that promotes inclusion and mutual respect. The Associate Director works closely with Fletcher School Deans, and the faculty and the staff to create programming, resources, and strategic initiatives that facilitate a sense of belonging among all members of the community and contribute to the successful achievement of community members’ objectives.


Basic Requirements:
Knowledge and skills as typically acquired through completion of Master’s degree, with preference for terminal degree in a related field), or related fields and 5 -8 years of experience in role supporting diversity and inclusion efforts in an institution of higher education.
Demonstrated understanding of, and support for, key precepts in diversity and inclusion including critical race theory, feminism, queer theory, privilege, protected classes, micro-aggressions, cognitive empathy, nonviolent communications etc.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work in an office environment that is diverse by race, gender, sexuality, religion, etc.
Subject matter expertise in diversity & inclusion, unconscious bias, talent development, and organizational development within a global environment.
Influence and consultative skills.
A track record of leading and managing change.
Results oriented and data-driven, able to gather relevant data to measure the impact of educational interventions.
Dedication to continuous improvement and excellence.
Strong programming experience.
Feedback and coaching skills.
Written and Verbal Communication:
Handles broad based complex information across departments with university-wide impact.
Presents to diverse audiences
Can negotiate, motivate, and persuade others
Collaboration/Service Orientation: Regular contact with others both inside and outside Fletcher/Tufts.
Results have significant broad implications on the management and operations of the Fletcher School.
Problem Solving: Problems are broad, complex and abstract.
Must develop solutions using substantial creativity, resourcefulness, innovation, negotiation, and diplomacy.
Independence of Action: Sets goals and priorities for functional area.
May make recommendations for department policies, practices, and programs.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in managing diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in a university setting.
