What You'll Do

The Prospect Development and Strategic Analytics Team at Tufts University has an opening for an Assistant Director of Prospect Development. The Assistant Director of Prospect Development will provide information to maximize the philanthropic potential of Tufts’ domestic and international prospect pool. As one of the team’s senior researchers, this person will provide all proactive and reactive research products offered by the department, especially in support of senior university leadership.  This position will work as a strategic research partner to forward the fundraising efforts of an assigned school and/or program by designing and implementing prospect identification projects with the goal of significantly increasing the prospect pool. In addition, the Assistant Director will work closely with the Sr. Associate Director of Prospect Management to assist with a robust and comprehensive prospect management system, including regular meetings with frontline fundraisers and portfolio and prospect analyses.  The position will generate reports in a variety of formats for development staff and for university administrators using online and internal resources. As skillsets, experience, and institutional knowledge evolve, the position may grow to incorporate management of junior or affiliated staff and ownership of department-wide projects. This position is hybrid eligible with extremely flexible working arrangements.

What We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge & Skills as Typically Acquired through a Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of related experience
  • Knowledge and experience in prospect research and development or other related area of advancement.
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Excellent writing and communication skills


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience using complex research tools
  • Proven skills in understanding, analyzing and synthesizing high volumes of information
  • Demonstrated project management skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize and meet frequent deadlines
  • Proficiency in office software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
  • Collaborate successfully with many different types of people
