Departmental Overview

The California 100 Initiative seeks to provide a transformative vision for the state of California, with a focus on thirteen key, interrelated issues that affect people and planet alike, in the medium as well as longer term. This initiative aims to articulate a strategy for California's next 100 years that is grounded in systematic research and evidence, deeply engaged with Californians around the state, and guided by core commitments to inclusion, sustainability, equity, and the value of liberty and justice for all. The initiative is coordinated by the Goldman School at the University of California, Berkeley, and is guided by the counsel of a commission of diverse leaders, and led by an executive team that includes an executive director and directors of advanced technology, engagement, innovation, and research. The Associate Director will serve as the chief of operations for the initiative and support the executive team in its internal operations and work involving the Commission as well as external stakeholders and partners.

Responsibilities
  • Designs, implements, and trouble-shoots project management systems and processes, including workflows and communication flows involving executives and staff as well as agencies and stakeholders within the University.
  • Designs, implements, and trouble-shoots project management systems and processes, including workflows and communication flows involving external stakeholders and partners in academia, industry, government, and the nonprofit sector.
  • Plans, directs and controls Center budget and manages financial, HR, technical, purchasing, and other supporting resources. Participates in the Center's budgeting and accounting processes to support financial infrastructure of program.
  • Supports the Executive Director and Engagement Director in stewardship of the California 100 Commission
  • Other duties as assigned; may include occasional evening and weekend work. May include occasional travel.


Required Qualifications
  • Expert ability to communicate and interact effectively with a broad constituency, including faculty, researchers, program/center managers, staff, students, funding agencies, community members, non-profit and government agencies, individual donors and media in a dynamic multicultural setting.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
  • Advanced ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.
  • Ability to oversee multiple functions, and the vision and agility to build something durable from the ground up; ability to manage productive collaborations between multiple agencies; demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative program and research agendas while engaging the public.
  • Professional demeanor, attention to detail, and the ability to act decisively yet collaboratively.
  • Expertise developing internal communications, including coordinating and facilitating effective meetings, establishing communication protocols and ensuring key stake holders are well-informed of program development at all times.
  • Technical proficiency - solid computer skills with knowledge of software programs (Microsoft Office - Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Google Suite). Ability to learn function-specific software.
  • Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.


Salary & Benefits

Full campus range (rate may be subject to additional budget and equity approval): $93,600.00 - $184,400.00

Other Information

This is a full-time, one-year contract position. Renewal is possible with continued funding.
