The Assistant Director provides leadership in outreach efforts to internal and external constituents, implementing strategic plans to meet institutional goals related to all WBS programs, and plays a strategic role in improving the enrollment process while also delivering insight that will help shape recruitment strategies.

The Assistant Director of Outreach and Program Operations at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) The Business School (WBS) will play a vital role in advancing the mission of WBS by supporting outreach efforts, programmatic operations, and the implementation of strategic initiatives pertaining to WBS programs.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversees department's outreach efforts, including the newsletter, websites, social media, and communications with alumni. Collaborates actively with marketing teams to ideate communications pieces and oversees content and style, managing staff and student employees in the execution of these activities. Manages seminars, colloquium and other events, speaker visits, special events and promotions. Supports the Dean by managing follow up details with external constituents.

Plays a significant role in developing a scalable program implementation system at WBS that delivers high-quality program development

  • Assist to execute strategic initiatives and ideas designed to enhance the WBS brand recognition as well as student experience, both inside and outside of the classroom
  • Streamline and implement new structures and roles that create speed, efficiency, and support rapidly shifting school and student demands
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for general inquiries from students, internal WBS clients and other campus offices regarding billing, registration, program requirements, and other requests for assistance
  • Work in collaboration with WBS leadership team in hiring adjunct faculty and student employees

In collaboration with Program Team and faculty, ideating and implementing strategies to ehance learner experience across the lifecycle of all WBS programs by understanding learners needs/expectations and processes needed to attract, retain, support and ultimately engaged learners/alumni.

  • Provide support to develop and deliver WBS social, and extracurricular events throughout the year, including student orientations and community-building events.
  • Manage and oversee the coordination of current students programming, including the Dean's Student's Advisory Council, project presentation day, activities outside the school, special events, and networking events
  • Assist with planning, designing, and providing workshops for students, such as information about the campus, or academic strategies and enrichment programs
  • Leverage use of CRM to streamline communications from WBS to students regarding program updates, events, scheduling and other matters of importance
  • Support student activities such as experiential learning workshops, international research, travel opportunities, social gatherings, student conferences and competitions, and additional leadership opportunities.

Develops, leads, and participates in recruitment and enrollment events and activities along with program team members and faculty.

  • Work with Admissions, Career Development Center and Academic Advising to expand awareness in the marketplace of our undergraduate majors and graduate students
  • Build outreach and support to ensure greater number of STEM students consider WBS.
  • Develop and lead presentations and other collateral aimed at providing insight and support to current and prospective students.
  • Assist with ensuring undergraduate business information on WPI websites and publications is accurate and timely.


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years of experience in an administrative support, operational, financial, or related support position capacity, preferably in higher education.
  • Strong customer service orientation and project management skills.
  • Empathy and a strong desire to deliver an exceptional and inclusive student experience.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and willingness to learn needed office productivity tools.
  • Flexible work/remote options may be possible after initial training/probation period.
