The University of Southern Maine (USM) is the intellectual, cultural and economic heart of Maine. Over 60 languages are spoken within an hour’s drive of our three campuses in Portland, Gorham and Lewiston. Our faculty are dedicated researchers and experts in their fields, including multiple recipients of national grants, awards, and fellowships and state, national, and global partnerships are steps from our campuses. As such, our university provides a unique combination of academic excellence at an affordable price. We offer baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral programs that prepare students in areas of economics, policy, education, the arts, healthcare, business, and the environment.
In contrast to many colleges and universities, we have experienced positive growth in enrollment, giving has increased, and plans are underway for student dorms on our Portland campus.
Our promise to being Student Focused Every Day is directly connected to our Service Values of Respect & Care, Integrity, Equity, and Responsiveness. Our President has a stated institutional goal to Uphold the Principles of Equity & Justice with 5 commitments – and the creation of this position is in direct support of that goal.

We are excited to continue building on this momentum by seeking a transformative leader with a deep understanding and passion for equity and inclusion to help us strengthen our institutional culture as one that genuinely values, supports, and champions diversity, equity, and inclusivity.
