Position Summary
The University at Buffalo is seeking a Business Manager who will be responsible for assisting the Senior AVP for Student Life in developing annual and long range HR, finance, project and strategic planning goals for the department directors on all HR and finance matters.

In this position you will be expected to exhibit knowledge regarding HR and financial matters and will be responsible for interpreting intent using policy and guidelines to determine the appropriate action. Specifically, you will be responsible for:

  • Resource Management and planning including preparation of budgets and spending plan, monitoring of expenditures, project expenditures, determine discretionary balance; identify opportunities for cost savings or highlight the need for shift in resources to address emerging issues.
  • Personnel Management including personnel planning and implementation including developing position descriptions and performance programs, serve as hiring manager, tracking performance related deadlines
  • Financial Analysis and reporting including analyze and monitor YTD budgets, prepare special costs analyses including department fee post audits and year end financials.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree. Minimum of two years professional experience in business or financial management is required, preferably in higher education. Experience required in budget development, oversight, reporting and human resources as well as demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills. Must have a strong understanding of basic accounting principles. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferably in accounting or business management.
