Cabrini University (www.cabrini.edu) is accepting nominations and applications for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (Provost/VPAA).
Appointed by and reporting to the University President, Dr. Donald Taylor, the Provost/VPAA serves as the Chief Academic Officer of the University and a member of the President’s Senior Leadership Team, and is responsible for the strategic leadership of all academic matters including curriculum, faculty and staff hires, faculty development, student academic success, and resource management.
The successful candidate for Provost will have demonstrated a strong commitment to the liberal arts, a proven record of implementing graduate and professional programs to serve adult learners, and experience with online learning and effective use of educational technologies to deliver curricula. The University seeks an experienced, progressive academic leader who inspires the faculty and staff, is committed to student success, and effectively collaborates to advance the Education of the Heart mission of the University and execute its strategic plan. As an emerging Hispanic Serving Institution, the ideal candidate will have experience promoting diversity and inclusivity initiatives. The new Provost should be available to take office in Spring 2019.
Serve as the Chief Academic Officer of the University.
Supervise through the deans and chairs, all academic schools and departments of the University, both undergraduate and graduate.
Oversee the hiring, evaluation and contract renewal of all faculty and staff within academic affairs.
Supervise through directors or governance processes, all academic services including the library, advising, registrar, career counseling, academic support, accreditation, centers, and institutes at the University.
Supervise the University Planning Council to advance the strategic plan of the University.
Advise the President on all academic matters and many University-wide initiatives.
Work with the President and the Cabinet in the overall coordination of the University.
Coordinate the hiring, evaluation, and professional development of faculty, academic administrators, and staff in Academic Affairs.
Make recommendations on faculty promotion and tenure.
Provide the vision for the direction, revision, and creation of academic programs of high quality offered in a variety of modalities and designed to serve diverse populations of learners.
Coordinate with faculty officers the interaction and communication between the faculty and administration, and facilitate the operation of the faculty governance structure.
Oversee institutional accreditation including all state, discipline, and higher education academic accreditation requirements.
Oversee ongoing evaluation and program review of all academic programs.
Oversee assessment of student learning outcomes.
Participate in creating and deepening "high impact" practices that engage students.
Provide leadership for the internationalization of the campus and advance diversity and inclusivity initiatives.
Work with Enrollment Management to support the recruitment and retention of students.
Collaborate with Student Life to support curricular and co-curricular programming.
Coordinate facilities planning for Academic Affairs.
Review and approve academic policies.
Represent the University’s academic programs to internal and external communities.
Prepare and monitor, in conjunction with the deans and chairs, the annual academic operating budget and serve as a steward of institutional resources.
Anticipate and communicate future developments in higher education and their impact on the University.
Serve as the administrative liaison to the Education Quality Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Act as the chief administrative officer in the President’s absence.
Demonstrate a consistent commitment to the University’s mission and Cabrinian values.
An earned doctorate from an accredited institution;
Proven leadership experience in liberal arts higher education, with a broad base of experience in both traditional and non-traditional programs;
Experience working with online, graduate and professional programs, preferred.
The ability to articulate the vision of a liberal arts institution with professional programs;
An understanding of, and strong commitment to, the mission and values of Cabrini University and Catholic higher education;
A distinguished record as a teacher and scholar;
Effective leadership as an advocate for faculty, staff, and students;
Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and with all administrative areas of the University;
Experience in faculty governance, leadership, mentoring, and faculty development;
A commitment to Catholic Identity and how this Identity is embodied in a diverse, inclusive community;
An understanding of the dynamic changes and trends within Catholic higher education and a deep understanding of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition;
Experience working with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds;
Proven success in accomplishing goals;
Effective verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills;
Experience supervising and building effective teams;
Demonstrated experience in leading accreditation;
A record of success in leading significant institutional change;
Prior experience serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet or senior leadership team is preferred;
Operational and strategic academic and financial planning experience;
Demonstrated ability to set high expectations and hold people accountable for excellent performance in a fast-paced environment.
Founded in 1957 by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Cabrini University is a Catholic institution that empowers students to become advocates of social change through our Education of the Heart mission, focusing on academic excellence, community engagement, and leadership development.
Cabrini enrolls approximately 1,650 undergraduates in more than 35 majors, concentrations, and minors on its serene 112-acre campus located 30 minutes from Philadelphia. The University also enrolls 900 students in graduate, doctoral, and professional studies programs at its main campus in Radnor, PA, and off-campus locations.
