Responsibilities:
1. Personnel Management. Provide department leadership, supervision, and general administration. Responsible for hiring, training, developing work plans, setting work direction, and evaluating staff. Supervise an Assistant and Associate Directors that are responsible for the day-to-day functions and development of programs relating to Student Housing and Residence Life
2. Residence Education Program Management. Provide direction and oversight for programs supporting student academic and personal success, including, community development and cultural diversity, student leadership, policy development and judicial process, crisis intervention, academic success initiatives, and legal issues. There are meetings with students individually and in groups.
3. Facilities Management. Maintain the physical environment of all residence hall space in a manner that supports student academic and personal success.
4. Dining and Fiscal Management. Develop and monitor annual auxiliary budgets in excess of $15M, forecast and manage occupancy, forecast and manage revenue and expenditures; develop and manage technology initiatives including department internet, cable, and phone service in residence hall rooms and administrative spaces. Manage $4M campus dining contract with the campus vendor in collaboration with the Campus Dining Team.
5. Strategic Planning. Create annual and long range financial, facilities and program plans, incorporating Minnesota State guidelines and best current practices in university housing administration.
6. Public Relations. Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships to develop social, cultural, and recreational activities, enhance space utilization, connect students to resources and inform students and staff of policies and procedures. Develop and maintain strong relationships with external parties such as parents, the media, and professional organizations. Represent WSU’s Housing and Residence Life at a System, State, and National level. Work closely with the Student Union and Facilities Services to ensure collaboration and student satisfaction.
 7. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of Winona State University. Including but not limited to serving on committees and participating in professional development to remain current in the field.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree
  • Five (5) years of experience in University Residence Life or Student Life and Development Leadership
