Position Summary
The Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid will assist the Financial Aid Director in the day-to-day financial aid operations. Works with the director to develop procedures and performance standards to maximize office efficiency, assist in staff development and training along with other personnel-related tasks. The Senior Associate Director will provide oversight and guidance to Enrollment Management (EM) scholarship initiatives; manage the campus scholarship portal; oversee renewal of all scholarships, present at required recruitment events, train financial aid staff to present scholarship information at recruitment events; conduct comprehensive scholarship review annually, develop partnerships with academic units to utilize all scholarship funds, and conduct financial aid and college admissions research that will enable UB to create strategic scholarships financial aid policies and procedures that will significantly impact undergraduate recruitment and enrollment. The Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid will advise UB on the implementation of innovative and strategic new aid models.
The Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid will:
- Provide a thorough historical analysis of students’ enrollment behaviors and characteristics related to their need, academic credentials, population segment, and financial aid offers. These could include key populations such as first-year students, in-state, domestic out-of-state and international, etc.
- Help UB predict the impact of tuition and aid changes on new student enrollment behavior.
- Enable UB with the ability to gain control over new student enrollment yields, discounting, and net revenue.
- Determine the net tuition prices (published tuition less financial aid) required to recruit and retain our desired student population segments.
- Explore the strategic use of student financial aid support to enhance retention and graduation.
- In collaboration with enrollment management, lead the development of scholarship policies and awarding guidelines.
- Advise on marketing initiatives to promote UB Scholarships and operate the CRM system to run information and notification campaigns.
- Develop scholarship award communications for admitted and enrolled students.
- Counsels and advises prospective and current students/families regarding student financial aid eligibility requirements and application procedures.
- Assists with development and monitoring of internal controls to ensure compliance with federal, state and institutional aid programs.
- Manages the reconciliation, data collection and reporting requirements for all scholarship programs.
The Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid primary responsibility is to develop a focused and sustainable scholarship program with academic units and their development officers to leverage our current funding commitment to achieve the best return on UB’s investment. Strategically support the allocation of these scholarship funds in alignment with University-wide goals and in connection with the research described above will improve entering cohort quality, retention and graduation.
The Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid will maintain thorough knowledge of federal, state and university policies and procedures pertaining to financial aid and scholarships.
The Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid will coordinate with enrollment management marketing and undergraduate admissions, financial aid, educational opportunity program, 1Capen and other campus partners and departments to plan and develop the marketing program to promote the UB Scholarships to current as wells as prospective students, faculty, staff, donors, area high schools, and guidance counselors, through print and electronic media and presentations. Collaborate with UB Advancement, faculty, staff, benefactors, area high schools and guidance counselors to identify and promote scholarship opportunities at UB.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of 3 years in financial aid, college admissions, student services in an office setting .
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree
Experience with budget management, fundraising and public presentations preferred.
