Position Summary
The Division of Student Life invites applications for the Dean of Students position. In this role of change agent, you will serve as a highly visible, equity-minded leader dedicated to student retention, support and development. You will provide vision, leadership, and supervision to the critical departments of Intercultural and Diversity Center, Student Support and Resources, Accessibility Resources, Student Conduct, and Veterans Services. As a member of the Division of Student Life senior leadership team, the Dean of Students will serve as an advocate for students, a strategic partner and collaborator across campus, and a champion for fostering student success and building community.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Providing strategic leadership and innovative vision to foster student growth and development and a sense of belonging and inclusion on campus.
- Developing and sustaining collaborative partnerships with other divisions, departments, administrative leaders, academic units, faculty, and students to enhance student support and development.
- Fostering an equitable and inclusive campus that celebrates the diversity of the University at Buffalo.
- Supporting the development, education, and enforcement of campus policies and regulations to ensure a safe environment for all UB students.
- Advancing campus support resources to meet the changing needs of students and working to ensure these programs, resources, and services are known and utilized throughout the UB community.
- Assisting in the management of student crises and critical incidents on campus.
The successful incumbent will be a strong, strategic, and transparent leader, with the ability to motivate others through collaborative processes. With the goal of ensuring that all of our unique students have their needs met and exceeded, UB’s future Dean of Students will foster a diverse student population with a focus on inclusivity and developing a holistic approach to student support and safety.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in higher education administration or related field.
- A minimum of 10 years of related experience in higher education with progressively increasing responsibilities.
- Demonstrated record of leading innovative and equity-focused student support initiatives in a higher education setting.
- Proven ability to develop campus-wide programs focusing on collaboration, diversity, and inclusion, utilizing the latest trends and proven practices in higher education.
- Demonstrated experience in support of a diverse working environment dedicated to principles of social justice, inclusivity, and equity.
- Organizational skills to set goals, prioritize assignments, monitor performance, and exceed set expectations and deadlines.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with experience creating and delivering presentations to small and large diverse groups.
Preferred Qualifications
- Terminal degree in related field.
