The American University of Sharjah (AUS), an independent, coeducational, non-profit institution,
seeks a Chancellor. Founded in 1997 on an American model integrating liberal arts and
professional programs, the university is acclaimed for its academic excellence and multicultural
environment. The QS Higher Education World University Rankings includes AUS among the
world’s top 50 universities under fifty years old. AUS is governed by an independent
international board of distinguished academic, business, and government leaders.
Sharjah, population 1.5 million, is the third largest of the seven emirates and the cultural capital
of the nation. Located in Sharjah’s beautiful University City, AUS’s modern campus is replete
with indoor and outdoor sports facilities, cafes, restaurants, and commercial services.
AUS hosts a student body of more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students of 95
nationalities, 50% of whom are female. The international faculty of 340 offers 28 undergraduate
majors and 16 master’s degrees through the College of Architecture, Art, and Design, the
College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the School of Business
Administration. The university also offers two doctoral programs. All instruction is in English.
AUS is accredited in the UAE by the Ministry of Education and in the United States by the
Middle States Commission on Higher Education; professional programs are accredited by the
Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International), the Engineering
Accreditation Commission and Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, and the United
States National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). Additional information is available at

Candidate qualifications include an earned doctorate or terminal degree, significant
administrative and academic experience at the dean level or above at an institution based on
the American model, and fluency in English. International experience is a plus. Compensation
and benefits are competitive. There are no local taxes; citizens of countries that tax world-wide
income, such as the US, may qualify for favorable tax treatment. The position is available
beginning summer 2021.
