ASSOCIATE DEAN, Faculty of Trades and Technology -- Competition Number 09-125
Applications are invited for the position of Associate Dean, Faculty of Trades and Technology.
The Faculty of Trades and Technology brings together 13 Programs in Appliance Servicing, Automotives, Parts & Warehousing, Carpentry, CADD, Electrical, Farrier, Masonry, Metal Fabrication, Millwright, Plumbing, Public Safety Communications and Welding. Innovative Program development is underway to create diplomas in all areas and a degree in technology, as well as create further continuing and professional studies opportunities.
Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean will primarily be responsible for:
• Advancing the educational plan to develop continuing education and professional studies, consistent with the University’s mandate.
• Supervising and evaluating Faculty and Staff in assigned Program areas.
• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with school districts and industry.
• Supporting the Dean in the administration of the Faculty of Trades and Technology education and financial plan development.
• Representing the Dean in liaison activities with other Divisions, Departments and bodies, both external and internal to the University, as they relate to the above initiatives.
We are seeking an exceptional individual with a demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and to play a key role in the Faculty.
The successful applicant will have the following qualifications:
• A Master’s Degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of trades certification, experience and education.
• At least five (5) years of teaching and/or related administrative experience in a post secondary environment are required, including significant committee work and leadership experience as a Chair or Coordinator.
• The ability to provide leadership and direction, analyze situations and develop effective solutions.
• Outstanding interpersonal communication skills and a record of effective working relationships.
• Ability to build leadership capacity in the Faculty by hiring, mentoring and coaching Faculty.
• Knowledge of vocational and academic programs and a commitment to academic excellence and an ability to advance the quality and content of Programs, courses and initiatives.
• Strong organizational skills, applicable to operational and logistical tasks.
• Knowledge of budgeting and Faculty management processes.
The successful candidate must be qualified to teach in the Faculty of Trades and Technology and will be offered a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal.
