Coordinator of Career and Orientation Programs – Beckley 04538
West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech), a part of the WVU system of campuses, invites applications for the position of Coordinator of Career and Orientation Programs in Beckley, WV. This position is as an integral member of the WVU Tech Student Affairs team and will coordinate new student orientation programs and advise students in career development and experiential learning activities.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Work collaboratively with campus partners (Student Life, Admissions, Academic Affairs, Athletics, etc.) to implement and deliver campus orientation programs for all first-year students, transfer students and their guests.
Assist in the recruitment, selection, training and supervision of orientation leaders.
Conduct regular program evaluation of orientation programs.
Develop and implement communication plans to serve new students and their families, to include web, email and social media.
Advise and coach students who are seeking career decision-making assistance, internship or cooperative education, and full-time employment opportunities.
Instruct students in the areas of career decision-making, resume development, cover letter writing, interviewing, networking, etiquette, graduate school admissions, professional social media profiles, and job-search strategies.
Administer and interpret various career and personality inventories.
Assist with the development and maintenance of relationships with employers.
Assist in the coordination of career fairs and events.
Coordinate and conduct workshops, mock interview events, recruiting events, on-campus interviews and networking events.
Use web services and programs including BANNER
, Microsoft Office Suite, career management platform, etc.
Work Hours: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and occasional evenings and weekends.
Pay Grade: 16

Master’s degree or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
Six (6) months experience in the following:
Working with college students
Career development and student development
Human resource practices
Excellent verbal & written communications skills, and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated knowledge of various computer systems and software, including career management systems
Supervisory experience preferred
Valid driver’s license
