Tulane University invites nominations, inquiries, and applications for the position of Vice President for Research (VPR). This leadership role offers an exciting opportunity for an innovative and driven person to advance the University’s important and growing research and economic development enterprise.

About the Vice President for Research: Reporting to, and working with, the Provost, the VPR will build upon and advance the longstanding and distinguished reputation of the University for excellence in research. The successful candidate will be a recognized scholar and leader in his or her field, with a demonstrated potential for collaborative research leadership and a strong commitment to quality and compliance. The VPR must possess the inspirational and consensus-building skills needed to advance the University’s research mission and to foster and facilitate the implementation of university and unit strategic plans as they relate to enhancing research competitiveness. The VPR will establish productive research liaisons with research-oriented faculty, staff, and students at Tulane as well as outside the university. The VPR will also energize and grow the research enterprise by providing focus to initiate grant support from governmental and private sources. Research at Tulane University: The University’s externally sponsored awards total approximately $140 million annually. In FY18, this represented 901 awards from 277 faculty. Tulane’s biggest sponsor is the National Institutes of Health from whom the University received awards totaling $72.3 million in FY18. Other major sponsors include the National Science Foundation, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Defense, and the U.S. Agency for International Development, as well as many non-profit foundations and corporations.
