Thompson Rivers University (TRU) seeks an experienced, strong, innovative leader to support program delivery, and excellence in research, teaching and service activities at TRU's Williams Lake campus (TRU-WL). Reporting to the designated Dean, the Associate Dean will have responsibilities in the administration, leadership and the development of domestic and international educational and research initiatives across TRU-WL.

The Associate Dean will play a key role in the support of TRU's strategic priorities of increasing student success, promoting excellence in practice, intercultural understanding, research capacity, entrepreneurial activity and sustainability.

TRU's Williams Lake campus is located in a beautiful community nestled around a large lake within a rural setting. Williams Lake offers a vast array of tourism and recreational activities, with excellent cultural, social and economic opportunities. Through TRU-WL, TRU also operates regional centres located in 100 Mile House, Ashcroft, Cache Creek, Barriere, Clearwater, Lillooet and Lytton.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Professional profile suitable for appointment as a tenured Associate, Full Professor, or Senior or Principle Lecturer at the start date of the appointment
  • Terminal degree in a relevant discipline; PhD preferred


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS
  • Extensive record of service including significant administrative contributions, e.g. as Assistant Dean, School/Department chair or program coordinator
  • Highly effective leadership and team building skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Record of excellence in teaching, scholarship and professional activity, including involvement in the development, delivery and/or administration of regional/rural post-secondary education and online learning
  • Substantial track record in research and pedagogy
  • Successful experience and leadership in a matrix organizational structure
  • Experience in curriculum, policy development and the academic approval process
  • Experience in multi-modal delivery of educational programming (face-to-face, blended, online, and distance learning)
  • Strong commitment to the development of student-centered online and blended learning opportunities
  • Demonstrated appreciation for open educational practices
  • Respect and value diversity within the faculty and student population; respect Indigenous cultural values and healthcare issues
  • Strong commitment and demonstrable evidence to working in responsive and meaningful ways in support of indigenizing higher education, and Indigenous peoples' successful outcomes in post-secondary education
  • Accountable and transparent, with the ability to inspire trust in interpersonal relationships; a reputation for integrity and sound judgment, resourcefulness and accountability
  • An understanding of TRU's strategic foundations, values and goals, particularly with respect to open access and student access
  • Strong commitment to collegiality and consensus building across organizational, disciplinary, and program boundaries
  • Ability to handle situations that require diplomacy and confidentiality
  • Ability to make difficult decisions and take action
  • Strong entrepreneurial and financial management skills including market research, fund raising, project management, and budgeting
  • Willingness to manage cost-recovery programs
  • Experience in curriculum, policy development and the academic approval process
  • Experience in managing in a unionized environment that includes employee recruitment and selection, evaluation, conflict resolution, contract negotiation, and the grievance process
  • Good knowledge of the academic governance system of TRU and the University's academic and service divisions
