The University of Providence (formerly the University of Great Falls), is accepting nominations and applications for the position of Vice President of Student Affairs (VPSA). Reporting to the Provost, the VPSA serves as the University’s chief student affairs officer, leading an integrated approach to student leadership development, in collaboration with academics and athletics, to deliver a unified, systematic, and intentional approach. The VPSA will also provide leadership and administrative oversight of all student affairs programs and services that promote and advance the University’s mission and strategic plan.


Develop a compelling student experience value proposition that helps recruit students.
Develop campus life/student affairs strategies consistent with the University’s Catholic mission and learning experience goals.
Serve as a student advocate within the University community to promote a healthy and positive campus climate.
Engage in strategic planning and programming for all phases of student life with ongoing evaluation and research of the experiences of students at the University.
Inspire and lead the Division to create a vibrant campus of rich co-curricular activities and functions.
Develop and maintain, with other administrators and faculty an integrated and comprehensive retention effort.
Cultivate, value, foster and maintain effective working relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
Provide administrative leadership for appropriate functions and activities.


Master’s degree with appropriate experience (Doctorate or terminal degree preferred)
Experience teaching and advising students in a higher education setting
Knowledge of the current literature on student affairs
Significant experience in administration, specifically with budgets and personnel management in student life and student development, as well as management experience within a higher education diversity and inclusion area
High energy while demonstrating leadership, the ability to take the initiative, and the willingness to initiate new programs
Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals
Comprehensive knowledge of co-curricular design, student development and best practices designed to support student success and a broad understanding of legal issues and compliance requirements within a higher education environment
Knowledge of current issues and trends in higher education and participation in national professional associations
Strong oral, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills, the ability to communicate with a diverse student population, demonstrated integrity and strong leadership, and the willingness to be part of a collaborative team
Effectiveness as a communicator and adeptness with interpersonal skills
Ability to manage crisis and understand the response protocols related to student affairs
Solid grounding in Catholic higher education or a deep understanding of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition (including Christians models of human formation), preferably both


Founded in 1932 through the collaborative efforts of the Sisters of Providence, the Ursuline Sisters, the Catholic Bishop of Great Falls, and the civic community all of whom recognized societal need for higher education, the University continues to be the shared endeavor of dedicated people. The University and Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH) announced a deepened partnership and vision for the future, resulting in a new university name and emphasis on one university with two schools. Joining the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences is the School of Health Professions effective July 2017.
