Appointment of Vice-President (Research)

The U of A seeks to appoint a new Vice-President (Research) with an exceptional record of scholarly achievement and the ability to play a key leadership role in delivering our academic vision. Reporting directly to the President, the Vice-President (Research) is responsible for building top-level research collaborations and maximizing the outputs and impact of U of A’s research at the provincial, national, and international levels. The Vice-President (Research) works closely with a broad group of stakeholders including funding agencies, industry partners, and leaders from across the University in order to create the environment and opportunities that enable U of A faculty, staff, and students to have the greatest impact in their fields in order to fuel discovery and advance knowledge.
The successful candidate will be an individual of high academic standing and have significant senior management experience in a major academic institution. They will be a visionary for world-class research at the U of A and possess the compelling leadership and communication skills necessary to deliver on this vision. They will also possess high levels of strategic thinking and analytical capabilities as well as a track record of achievement across a significant diversity of initiatives and projects.
This position is in accordance with University terms and conditions, and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and will be competitive with public research post-secondary institutions. Components of compensation will include base salary, a comprehensive benefits package (which can be viewed at www.hrs.ualberta.ca), as well as additional negotiated benefits applicable to the position.
