In 2016, Northern Arizona University combined the Informatics and Computing Program (ICP) with the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (CSEE) to establish the School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems (SICCS). SICCS is a research-intensive academic unit that integrates a range of new and existing educational programs (undergraduate and graduate) with interdisciplinary research at the intersections of computational and data sciences with engineering, natural and social sciences, the arts, and business. SICCS currently has 29 full-time faculty and is recruiting eight additional full-time faculty in FY2018. In addition, SICCS has nine lecturers/instructors and numerous research professors, post-doctoral scholars, and graduate assistants. The unit’s current year cumulative budget is approximately $14 million and is anticipated to grow. Based on current year performance, SICCS is expected to generate 80-100 extramural research proposals annually requesting $40-$50 million in project costs. In addition, SICCS’ student enrollment (undergraduate and graduate), currently at 810 students, is expected to grow at an rate of 15% per year (based on the enrollment performance of the CS, EE, and Informatics & Computing undergraduate and graduate programs over the past 4 years, and new SICCS programs coming online).
