Position Summary

The Associate Director of Employer Outreach markets students and alumni and law school programs with stated goal of increasing employment opportunities and job postings for students and alumni. Identify additional employers for outreach in designated strategic geographic areas. Conduct employer visits locally, regionally and nationally. Actively solicit summer and post-graduate employment opportunities for students and alumni. Manage all aspects of employer relationships with respect to recruitment programs, job postings, and job fairs. Expand judicial clerkship opportunities by interacting with the judiciary and preparing reports. Serve as liaison to student bar association, student organizations, faculty, and alumni.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Market students and alumni and law school programs to appropriate persons with stated goal of increasing employment opportunities and job postings for students and alumni. Assist with development of creative initiatives for marketing and promoting the Law School to employers. Identify additional employers for outreach in designated strategic geographic areas. Expand judicial clerkships opportunities by interacting with the judiciary and preparing reports. Conduct employer visits locally, regionally and nationally.
  • Actively solicit summer and post-graduate employment opportunities for students and alumni. Act as liaison between potential employers and students/alumni. Assist with planning and implementing strategies that encourage employers to hire Law School students and alumni. Keep current on employment trends and projections and avenues for enhanced job search techniques.
  • Manage all aspects of employer relationships with respect to recruitment programs, job postings, and job fairs, including employer outreach, employer registration, and employer communications. Screen, and in coordination with Career Program Assistant, post on Symplicity all known, pertinent job opportunities.
  • Contact, join and attend meetings of groups that would expose Law School and /or students to local and regional legal communities, including bar associations, legal interest groups etc. Serve as liaison to student bar association, student organizations, faculty, and alumni.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required.
  • 2-3 years legal work experience.
  • Strong networking and marketing skills
  • Ability to aggressively market the Law School, students and alumni to attorneys, firms, corporations, government agencies, the judiciary, public interest organizations, and other potential legal employers.
  • Legal practice experience and admission to the bar (or equivalent relevant legal profession / market knowledge and experience, including knowledge of legal processes, court systems, inner workings of firms, etc.).
  • Knowledge of legal employers and their hiring needs as well as essential legal career planning and placement processes and principles.
  • Counseling, mentoring, training, and multicultural competence
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effective deliver oral presentations to groups and individuals.
  • Counseling, listening, and empathy skills; commitment to diversity
  • Close attention to detail and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with technology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and collegiality with all relevant constituents (faculty/staff, employers, students, alumni, department colleagues).
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and approach challenges with creativity, insight and resourcefulness.
  • Skills in the use of essential office technology applications, including MS Word, calendar programs, email, voicemail, etc.


Preferred Qualifications

  • JD preferred.
  • Experience in attorney hiring / recruitment strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience and/or training in counseling and mentoring preferred.
  • Experience or training in marketing, sales, or equivalent fields (such as development / fundraising) relating to business development is a plus.
  • Experience with Excel or comparable databases as well as Symplicity and SCT Banner software is desirable.


Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours

This position requires travel and work during the evenings.
