Job Summary
The Department of Physics at Auburn University is excited to begin the search for a Director of instructional and Research Labs. This position oversees all operation, leadership, direction, and administration of the laboratories in accordance with university and governmental regulations.
Essential Functions
- Monitors and reports on the physics instructional facilities, including all undergraduate teaching laboratories in Leach Science Center (LSC), the Astronomy Terrace (LSC) and the Academic Classroom and Laboratory Complex (ACLC) physics demonstration facility.
- Administers the undergraduate laboratories to include the coordination of teaching assistant assignments and supervision of all Physics Graduate Teaching Assistants.
- Maintains all instructional support equipment including those for (1) undergraduate teaching laboratories, (2) LSC Astronomy Terrace, and (3) ACLC Demonstration facility. Identifies and prioritizes laboratory equipment purchases.
- Manages instructional support budget associated with three equipment areas above along with instructional computers (~100 individual PCs)
- Works with AU Physics office staff to schedule laboratory sections associated with 1000+ level physics courses.
- Oversees safety procedures and training associated with undergraduate instruction.
- Coordinates equipment use for department activities pertaining to graduate and undergraduate outreach.
- Teaches laboratory sections when needed.
