Presentation College (www.presentation.edu), is seeking a creative, dynamic and innovative individual to provide leadership to The Social Science and Humanities Division of the College. Under the direction of the Vice President of Academics, the Dean will provide leadership in social sciences and humanities courses and oversight of academic programs including Business, Management, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Communications, Interdisciplinary Studies, and American Studies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The Dean of the Division of Social Science and Humanities will have the knowledge and understanding of current issues in higher education as well as strong managerial skills, initiative, and a vision in program development and administration.

The Dean will have the ability to:

  • plan, direct, and evaluate a complex operation, using human resources power, time, funds, and other resources for the accomplishment of long-term and short-term goals of the institution;
  • organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize goals and objectives, and to exercise informed judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies, procedures and activities;
  • integrate resources, policies, and information in order to develop procedures and to solve problems;
  • apply budgeting and fiscal planning techniques within fiscal constraints in order to maximize resources;
  • read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and legal documents;
  • present information effectively to administrators/staff/faculty/students/external groups;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the public; and
  • communicate effectively-orally, in person, in writing, and by telephone.

PRIMARY DUTIES – May include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides academic leadership for the Division
  • Plans, coordinates and evaluates short and long range goals and objectives for the division
  • Provides information and makes recommendations to the Vice President for Academics on matters related to the division
  • Provides leadership and guidance in faculty and staff searches and supports access, equity, and diversity
  • Directs and evaluates the work of the division program directors, faculty, and administrative assistant
  • Instruct one course per academic year
  • Establishes, implements and monitors policies and procedures in alignment with the College’s mission, values, and strategic priorities
  • Receives, reviews, facilitates and assures proper and timely resolution of student, staff, faculty, administrative, division and program issues, complaints and conflicts
  • Formulates and administers the division budget in collaboration with division’s Program Directors
  • Sets priorities for resource allocation and utilization
  • Assists in the development of marketing strategies leading to program recognition and growth
  • Collaborates with Marketing/Admissions Recruitment and provides leadership in establishing and meeting enrollment goals; analyzes retention information and ensures a focus on enrollment/recruitment management within the division and across the College
  • Provides leadership and support in accomplishing accreditation, program review, and program assessment activities; engage in best practice research and evidence-based analysis and work in collaboration with colleagues, complete internal and external reporting requirements
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies, procedures and regulations
  • Administers and monitors instructional programs and courses to assure compliance with established curriculum and College and program accreditation standards and requirements; directs and participates in the development, analysis, implementation and enhancement of curriculum standards
  • Collaborates with the General Education Program Director to assist in achieving general education outcomes as relates to the division
  • Collaborates with program directors to develop schedule, monitor enrollments, class size and faculty loads and curriculum changes as appropriate
  • Oversees course approval processes, maintenance of accurate catalog information, advising materials and division content on the College website
  • Recommends faculty for promotion and tenure consideration
  • Collaborates with the Development Office in division related external funding, grants, research and community relation efforts for the College
  • Conducts community outreach, coordinates and directs communications, programs, services, activities and information between College and outside organizations such as businesses, educational institutions, and state and federal agencies
  • Actively engages in community organizations and/or events
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Doctorate or currently pursuing a doctorate is required
  • Established record of teaching, advising, research, and service within the disciplines in the Division
  • Minimum of five year’s leadership experience in postsecondary academic administrative leadership experience and achievement in positions of progressively increasing responsibility
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, budget management, research and supervision, development and evaluation of faculty
  • Experience in a team-based, collaborative environment with proven consensus-building skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to the philosophy and mission of Presentation College
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to relate to students, staff, and faculty of varied ethnicity, ages, backgrounds, and abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer information systems for data collection, reporting, and analysis
  • Project management and problem-solving skills with the ability to use computer information systems for data collection, analysis and reporting to identify trends and needs

Presentation College is an independent Catholic higher educational institution sponsored by the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (PBVM). The College split across campuses in Aberdeen, and Sioux Falls in South Dakota and Fairmont, Minnesota.
