We are looking for a Program Coordinator to join our Multicultural Center at Simmons College. Reporting to the Director, you will be responsible for developing and implementing educational, social and collaborative programs in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Managing the day to day operations of the Center, you will play a pivotal role in creating an interactive, affirming and developmental space.
On January 31, 2018, Simmons celebrated the grand opening of the Multicultural Center, a new space that offers advocacy, programming and resources in regards to diversity, equity and inclusion at the College. The Center embodies Simmons' commitment to creating an environment that is free from bias, prejudice and discrimination.
Advise affinity student organizations and assist in their logistical event planning and chaperoning
Plan, promote and coordinate the recruitment and retention of underrepresented students at Simmons
Lead and coordinate targeted and culturally responsive programming/events
Arrange meetings, workshops, events, etc. designed to exchange information, promote the office's objectives
Build internal and external relationships within the Simmons community
Ensure that event details including communication, venues, presenters, travel arrangements, materials, refreshments and technology are arranged and completed in an appropriate and timely manner
Create and nurture relationships with individuals and departments to develop a network of enthusiastic departments engaged via active participation in the success of program/project
Incorporate social media and networking into programs and projects as appropriate
Provide a support network, including outreach, advocacy and other support services for all marginalized students attending Simmons
Participate in committees as requested
Observe program sessions and interact with participants for purpose of gaining insight, growing and strengthening program knowledge
Commitment to values of diversity, equity, inclusion, intersectionality and student development
Demonstrated knowledge of equity work including best practices in regards to identity development, intersectional programming, social justice, inclusion, multiculturalism and creating equity
Experience advocating for and supporting the academic, personal and professional needs of underrepresented populations
Proven ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, set priorities and meet tight deadlines
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
Strong organizational and administrative skills
Prior supervisory experience preferred
Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Experience with program development, implementation and assessment
