Program Manager, Community-Engaged Learning

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Community-Engaged Learning, the Community-Engaged Learning Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the Center's public service programs including USF in DC, Privett Global Scholars, McCarthy Fellows, and Public Service and Community Engagement Minor; and supporting community-engaged learning across the institution. The Program Manager will manage and coordinate all aspects of programs and events; orient students to community engagement and provide community engagement curriculum and resources to faculty as needed; recruit, select, orient, and counsel students in the programs, administer scholarships, participate in selection of students, analyze data to assess program effectiveness and make recommendations for continuous improvement, make recommendations regarding allocation of budget resources, and plan and implement events.

Job Responsibilities:

A. Oversee all aspects of the Centers public service student programs including: Privett Global Service-Learning program, USF in DC, McCarthy Fellows in Sacramento, and Public Service and Community Engagement Minor in collaboration with Director of Community-Engaged Learning
1. Plan and implement administration and assessment of each program; lead all trouble shooting and problem solving related to each program; serve as the primary point of contact for students in each program
2. Use data from program assessments to make decisions about continuous improvement of programs
3. Lead recruitment, selection, and mentorship processes for USF in DC, Privett Global Scholars, and McCarthy Fellows; counsel students before, during and after application process; make decisions about students best qualified for selection
4. Lead recruitment for Public Service and Community Engagement Minor; provide mentoring to students in minor
5. Oversee web, print, and social media content for each program
6. Manage all processes related to McCarthy Center scholarships and make recommendations recognizing students for public and community service
7. Working with the Director, manage budgets and make recommendations about allocation of resources for programs
8. Provide community engagement orientations and reflections as needed
9. Mentor and support current and former student participants, including meeting with students as needed, writing letters of recommendation, problem-solving any issues that arise, providing award nominations, etc.
10. Identify and prepare McCarthy Center students when needed as presenters, panelists, recruiters, etc. for McCarthy Center or university-wide programs and events;
B. Support university-wide service-learning requirement by providing in-class community engagement orientations and reflections, and assisting community partner/faculty stakeholders as requested, in collaboration with community-engaged learning team
C. Work with campus entities (e.g., Cultural Centers, Learning & Writing Center, Office of Diversity Engagement and Community Outreach, Student Leadership & Engagement, etc.) on projects that intersect with the Centers mission, vision, and programming priorities
D. Support integration of the Engage SF initiative with the Centers existing undergraduate programs
E. Contribute to the Centers fundraising and communication strategies in consultation with McCarthy Center Associate Director and other relevant staff
1. Support program-related events
2. Create and share stories to be used social media, video, web, blog content
3. Write or contribute to grant proposals and share information with potential donors in support of community-engaged programs and initiatives
F. Engage in inquiry about practices internal to the McCarthy Center and USF, as well as the broader field of community engagement and community partners mission and work, through individual scholarship and participation in professional development opportunities (campus, local, regional, and national)
G. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:


Bachelors degree required, masters degree preferred. Candidate should have at least two years of administrative experience in higher education or non-profit program management. Significant experience overseeing student programs within higher education is strongly preferred. Candidate must have knowledge of and capacity to articulate and teach about the value of community-engaged learning in higher education, as well as cultural competence and cultural humility to work with students, community partners, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences. Candidate must be able to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with USF administrators, faculty, students, private and public agencies and others; demonstrate general knowledge and understanding of budgets, grants and fiscal management; communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with diverse populations in an urban, multicultural environment; employ strong problem-solving skills in the context of interpersonal and group relations; and prioritize multiple tasks and complete them in a timely fashion. Candidate must have flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
