Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly and annual comparative accrual basis financial statements, including variance analysis, and cash flow statements
  • Coordinate audits by independent auditors, including the financial statement audit, A-133 audits and other audits by the federal government
  • Ensure that accounts payable reflects the amount owed to vendors and that vendors are paid on a timely basis
  • Prepare federal, state and local tax returns including Form 990, Form 990-T, State Franchise taxes, etc.
  • Ensure that employee payrolls are made on a timely basis and withholdings are deposited with the appropriate agencies within the required deadlines
  • Write and implement policies and procedures to safeguard the assets of the University and ensure that colleagues have a thorough understanding of those policies and procedures
  • Ensure that staff members receive sufficient training to perform their essential job duties
  • Ensure that students are billed for courses enrolled, financial aid is applied to student accounts as appropriate, credit balances are paid, refunds are made to borrowers, promissory notes are signed and federal loans made to students are processed in accordance with university and federal rules and regulations
  • Ensure that billings to and collections from third-parties for scholarships and services rendered
  • Ensure that University accounts and notes receivables, installment loans, Perkins Loan and Health Professions Loans past due more than 120 days are submitted to the collection agencies in accordance with university policies and federal regulations
  • Keep the Vice President of Business and Fiscal Affairs informed on matters affecting the University's operations
  • Consult with the deans and department heads on accounting and reporting issues
  • Ensure that financial reports, cash draw-down requests and billings to sponsoring agencies for grants and contracts are completed and processed on a timely basis
  • Work with the Bursar and others to ensure that cash is collected, deposited, and posted to the student accounts on a timely basis
  • Ensure that bank statements, receivable subsidiary ledgers, other subsidiary ledgers and account detail are reconciled to the general ledger on a monthly basis
  • Prepare and direct the preparation of annual and Ad Hoc endowment financial reports on a timely basis
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


  • Baccalaureate degree in Accounting
  • Licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Seven years of experience as a full-charge accountant
  • Four years of supervisory experience
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Hands-on manager, capable of motivating and training staff

Additional Desirable Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to applicants with college/university accounting experience
  • Knowledge of college/university accounting for private schools is desired
  • Master"s Degree in Finance or related field
