Director of Communications and Strategic Initiatives


Location: Moscow

Division/College: Col of Agricultural & Life Sciences

Employee Category: Exempt

Pay Range: $69,773 per year or higher depending on experience

Full/Part Time: Full Time

Position Summary:

The Director of Communications and Strategic Initiatives directs marketing and communication for the College and facilitates key operations and strategic priorities and initiatives. As the primary communication representative for CALS, the DCSI is the chief content strategist for marketing and communications in support of the reputation and positioning of CALS. The director will advance CALS through purposeful and creative messaging that is tied to the university's brand and the strategic initiatives of the college. The director provides marketing leadership in a variety of areas, including alumni relations, web content, media and public relations, and publications. The director provides counsel to the dean and departments on marketing approaches and supervises the Marketing and Communications Team as well as Alumni Events. The director is responsible for leadership, vision, management and assessment of key operations and strategic initiatives for CALS and serves as the primary coordinator with the dean, associate dean(s), department chairs, faculty and staff in CALS. The director serves in a leadership role as a contributing member of the executive team of the college.

Minimum Qualifications:


Education/Experience: Graduate degree in a related area and 3+ years in related work experience; or a baccalaureate degree in a related field and 5+ years in related work experience.
Experience supervising staff.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with customer/provider groups, with diverse constituencies and with faculty, administrators and community partners.
Experience designing and organizing educational seminars, programs, workshops events, exhibits, fairs, etc.
Demonstrated leadership experience, excellent interpersonal communication skills, highly developed writing and organizational skills.
Experience in facilitating group discussion and consensus building; demonstrated project management experience.
Experience working with students and associated academic services.
Proficiency using Microsoft software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Calendar and E-mail.

Preferred Qualifications:


Experience developing and monitoring a budget.
Experience planning, evaluating and coordinating a program.
Knowledge and familiarity with University of Idaho programs.
Knowledge and familiarity with Industry and External Stakeholder relationships

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

This position will require travel and work outside of normal working hours.
