Position Description
The position of Director of Human Resources oversees and manages the human resources programs, including the areas of recruitment, training, employee relations, compensation and benefit program management, performance evaluation, payroll, and policy/procedure development and implementation. This position reports to the Vice President for Finance and Operations. The position is an exempt, 12-month, 1.0 FTE position.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the Office and function of Human Resources and Payroll
  • Provide leadership to cross-campus training initiatives including the planning and coordination of leadership and supervisory training programs
  • Be a leading voice on campus in the resourcing of university culture development
  • Consult with Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors and other managers on personnel and employment issues
  • Provide leadership to strategic compensation and benefits planning, including overseeing and administering both the University’s salary and wage programs and the University’s employee benefit programs
  • Provide leadership in the recruitment of staff and faculty as assigned
  • Oversee and administer the performance evaluation process
  • Develop and update human resource policies, procedures and practices in collaboration with the President’s Cabinet
  • Interpret and administer NNU employee-related policies and procedures to assure compliance
  • Administration of Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
  • Establish and maintain relationships with broker, HRIS and benefit vendors
  • Assure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree is required; preference will be given to those with studies in human resources, business, public administration, or a related field
  • Professional Human Resources certification (SPHR preferred)
  • Administrative experience with a thorough understanding of employment, labor, benefit and related laws
  • The candidate must demonstrate high motivation and commitment to the University, including the ability to self-start, be calm under pressure, meet deadlines in a deadline-oriented environment, work with minimal supervision, tolerate ambiguity, and relate to a variety of personalities under diverse circumstances
  • The candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills (both oral and written) and the candidate must be able to work with and maintain confidential information
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems (NNU utilizes UltiPro)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point applications
  • Candidates must be a person of Christian faith (preferably with a Wesleyan Theological persuasion), and be comfortable with and in agreement with the mission and lifestyle values of NNU
  • Supervisory and training experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • High motivation and commitment to the University, including the ability to self-start, be calm under pressure, meet deadlines, work without direct supervision, be able to multitask, problem-solve, and relate to a variety of personalities under diverse circumstances
  • Sufficient skills, knowledge and training to take full ownership of and responsibility for all essential functions of this position
  • Must be dependable, with proven record of punctuality and consistent attendance
  • Ability to view a computer screen for extended periods
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time

Compensation
The salary will be determined by the educational background and experience of each applicant and will be discussed with individual candidates as they are invited to interview for this position.
