The Dean integrates and provides administrative support to faculty and a diverse student population. The Dean requires the ability to direct and integrate the activities of a student services and equity division and its related functions and services, to provide leadership over curriculum, faculty and support staff, and assure excellence in delivering higher education. The Dean also requires the ability to facilitate professional development, establish standards and assess performance of faculty members.

Under the general direction of the Vice President of Student Services, the Dean will perform a variety of administrative duties to advance the college's student equity goals of ensuring equitable educational opportunities and promoting student access and success for all students, regardless of race, gender, age, disability, or economic circumstances. Primary responsibilities include providing leadership and coordination for the delivery of student equity, student discipline and grievance, basic skills, EOPS, CARE, CAFYES, CalWORKs, Foster Youth, Student Life & Outreach, and related special programs and organizing, coordinating and implementing evidence-based processes that lead to increased access and success for all students.

The Dean plans, organizes, directs and coordinates student services and equity programs for a college. Plans and develops programs and services that meet the needs of a highly diverse urban student population.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Provide leadership for program development; oversees, plans and provides analysis of current student services' programs to determine current and future needs for additions, modifications, and/or deletions to student services' programs.     
* Serve as the primary point of contact in the coordination of the college's Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) and all student equity activities.     
* Develop and implement specific high impact programs that encourage enrollment of underrepresented and disadvantaged students; collaborate with faculty, administration and staff to establish academic, financial, social and cultural support systems that encourage retention and inclusion in the college community.     
* Plan, develop, implement and manage comprehensive programs and services for educationally and socio-0economically disadvantaged and historically underrepresented students.     
* Provide administrative direction for Extended Opportunities and Services Programs (EOPS), Student Life & Outreach, Veterans, Foster Youth, CalWORKS, Student Financial Aid, and other categorical specially funded programs related to student equity.     
* Work closely with faculty and staff in administering a comprehensive program of student support services, including student development and leadership programs.     
* Collaborate with Research and Institutional Effectiveness to plan, facilitate, and coordinate research and professional development strategies and activities for the SSSP and Student Equity Plans that are based on data drive assessment.     
* Develop methods and processes to support equity and inclusion in the college's learning strategies and evaluates all programs for continued improvement opportunities.     
* Promote and educate students on acceptable conduct and keep the campus community informed of student codes of conduct, Board Policies and Administrative Procedures, and behavioral issues; collaborate with the college Behavioral Assessment Team (BAT) to evaluate and assist students in crisis; serve as the college disciplinary officer for student conduct issues and concerns.     
* Assess and monitor student success and retention rates of various cohorts or pathway models, first-year students, veterans, foster youth, and other identified target populations, developing new programs and strengthening existing programs to respond to their academic needs.     
* Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of programs, services, strategies, and approaches and propose adjustments to identified program concerns as appropriate.     
* Direct and provide for proper staffing of student programs. Consult with faculty and administrators to design programs that enhance and meet the needs of students.     
* Prepare or review documents for program development, working with faculty and administration to produce effective programs that meet the demands and needs related to all student services and equity development.     
* Provide leadership for faculty and staff development and learning opportunities that enhance effectiveness in college learning processes. Provide leadership in the development and assessment of program and student learning outcomes.     
* Direct development of division budgets and manages financial resources consistent with policy and sound financial controls. Advocate for resources to support departmental programs and opportunities and allocates resources among competing requests for funds.     
* Conduct performance appraisals of compliance with District standards and contractual obligations. Monitors workload indicators for accuracy and balance.     
* Perform other related duties as assigned to support the objectives of the position.
